| Welcome to Downtown Angola! |
Downtown Angola, Indiana has always been a special place. As the county seat of Steuben County, it is home to the Courthouse and has been a place of business and commerce for well over a century. It still retains a great deal of this prominence, both as a hub for business and government as well as a crossroads for transportation.
2010/2011 brought the construction of a 35+ year dream to the Public Square!
Re-building and improving the infrastructure of the Public Square in Downtown Angola has been discussed, debated and deferred for well over 35 years. The Public Square reconstruction project, launched in March of 2010 and finished just in time for the July 4th parade, brought a complete reconstruction of the sidewalk areas and created new planting beds for flowering and perennial vegetation, installed new benches and trash receptacles and refurbished existing downtown decorative street lights.
In addition, the initial stages of a redesign and reconstruction of US 20 (Maumee Street) has begun and will continue in 2011. Medians have been constructed and planted on US 20 and on each of the "spokes" of the Downtown Public Square to slow traffic entering this pedestrian area.
But Downtown can still be better...
